Meditation in Practice

This class will provide a map of the terrain one may traverse by meditation based on my own experience along with some of the basic techniques of mindfulness meditation.  Many people come to meditation without knowing what they are doing or even why they are doing it, other than they’ve heard or read about meditation’s positive benefits.  This is unfortunate because without a clear aim a practice is hard to sustain and its results hard to evaluate.  The Buddha is recorded as recommending a concentration practice while keeping one’s theme well in hand.  My intent is to help make this theme clear - what we hope to accomplish with those states of concentration we are trying to achieve and why we set out to achieve them in the first place.  With these tools I hope the student will be able to initiate and sustain their own journey.
