About Karl

Karl Straub was born in North Carolina in 1965.  He is a graduate of Duke University, a former competitive swimmer and dolphin communication researcher. He worked in Washington, D.C., as Legislative Aide to a member of the US Congress, and for 6 years lived in New York City as a teacher and IT consultant. In 2004, while on a week of yoga and quiet retreat, he decided to devote himself full-time in the study of spiritual and physical well-being, even though it would mean financial uncertainty and loss of a steady career. Back in New York he recruited and trained his successor for his job in Manhattan.  When the career transition/exit was complete, he sold most of his belongings, moved out of his apartment near Central Park, and set off on an odyssey of 8 years in which he traveled only with what he could carry, and kept no apartment anywhere.  Over those years he traveled many countries where he studied, practiced, and taught yoga asana, pranayama, philosophy, and meditation.  He is currently based in Switzerland, and gives classes, workshops, and retreats around the world.
