Yin Yoga with Rena Wren

This class will give students the opportunity to access, nourish and massage the deep connective tissues of the body for a wonderful new kind of yoga experience.

Yin yoga is a quiet practice suitable for students of all levels of experience. Through the practice of long held postures targeting mainly the connective tissue of the low back, hips and hamstrings, Yin yoga invites you to slow down and create space for stillness while nourishing your body. When we let the muscles relax, the work is done in the areas beyond the muscles and into the joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia. Many of the poses are seated, supine or prone, with special attention paid to areas that encompass a joint (hips, spine, sacrum). We hold poses with the muscles relaxed for several minutes. Also, by targeting the main meridians (energy channels) of the body, this type of deep tissue practice assists you in removing ama (toxins, blockages) and creating more mental and physical harmony. This is a more meditative practice with a focus on the breath, being present in the moment, relieving tension and letting go. The Yin practice includes powerful mental and emotional benefits as you become quiet, still and mindful of the present moment. Other benefits of Yin yoga include: reduces stress, creates calm in the mind and body, builds stamina, lubricates and protects the joints, increases flexibility in the deep tissue, and improves your meditation experience. Give yourself this opportunity to surrender, slow down and come back to balance. Yin yoga is a perfect complement for vinyasa flow and other physically challenging “yang” practices.

Props are extremely useful for this type of practice so that you can access the deep tissue in the best way for your body. If you have props of your own, please feel free to bring them (blocks, blanket, bolster).

A Weekend with Ruslan Kleytman and Akhila Yoga

Akhila Yoga Method is a systematic approach to spiritual evolution based on the key principles of classical yoga. Akhila Yoga is an open, organic, ever changing, adaptive, scientific method rooted in Vedic tradion and Wisdom. All facets of practice are explored to create a holistic experience. Classical arsenal of asanas (poses), pranayamas (breath-energy work), mudras (hands, feet and body positions), bandhas (energetic locks) and meditation techniques (sense withdrawal, concentration, absorption…) are used to create a complex web of influences on conciseness to facilitate psychic – emotional state conducive to spiritual development. From class to class practice might change from dynamic to slow-meditative, strength oriented to fluid, playful to centered. Our daily goals in practice change depending on a time of day, season, mental and physical state… etc. - so does the practice. One thing in this Universe is certain – it is CHANGE. To surf the current of life we need to change alongside with it. 9:00-11:30am Happy Hips & Shoulders

Urban dwellers live high pace, stressful lives. Each of us from the first breath we take undergoes various traumatic experiences. Negative emotions like fear and gilt, create zones of high density around hips and shoulders. We feel tight, limited, and stuck in our upper and lower bodies. Hips are closing and shoulders are slouching as we build protective shell to hide behind it. To be free, open and relaxed we need to release these zones. Experience the euphoria of full range of motion in your hips and shoulders through a systematic, 6 directional, gradual exploration though postures and warm ups (kriyas-vinyasas) ranging from pigeon pose all the way to lotus, and various (little known, but so needed) shoulders opening routines. Come with a willing spirit and leave with an open pelvis and shoulder complexes!

All levels

Topics covered:

· Directions of mobility for hips and knees

· Directions of mobility for shoulders and elbows

· 4 levels of difficulty

· Antagonist muscle groups

· Kriyas (warm ups)

· Principal vinyasas

· Bandhas & Mudras

"In all the worlds there is He, the Holy Lord. He is in the dark, He is the Light, he is in the sun, he is in the moon. He is everywhere. The Lord is in all creation. Unknowable his ways. He is far away. He is near. He is many. He is one. Water, earth, sky, fire and wind, the spark of the spirit inside the body - all that He is. He is wandering Jiva here below. He is immortal. "

- Shiva Purana

During this class, we will join in a vinyasa flow, surfing gracefully from posture to posture in the yogic dance, as if participating in the Cosmic Dance of creation to the beat of Shiva Nataraj’s drum. The flow includes playful, cheerful, dynamic choreography with classical poses and postures dedicated to Shiva, "Shiva Nata “, along with hand movements as vinyasa conectors, mudras and bandhas, with emphasis on breathing synchronization with the movement. And, of course, the soundtrack dedicated to Shiva, and pranayama and meditation from "Vigyan Bhairav Tantra".

April Focus of the Month: Open Doorways!!!

Many people think a yoga practice is about acquiring something, a certain skill or the ability to do a certain pose/asana practice. What you are really doing is eliminating the obstacle that prevents you from getting there. You’re stripping away all the excess. It is the restrictive thought, the narrowing of possibilities that disallows the flow of energy or prana. We want these doorways to be open.

Yogis are very practical, so to do that, we must investigate how they became closed. Our discussion will examine howto open up our closed doorways to remove the obstacles in our lives!

Mantra Chanting: Repetition of specific mantras in a call and response format!

Relaxing Meditation (Approx. 20 minutes): Meditation will focus on opening your internal doorways to allow you to shed and remove obstacles in your life!

Look forward to seeing you there!

A Weekend with Intuitive Life Coach and Hypnotherapist, Bonni McCliss

A weekend of workshops with Bonni McCliss to help you go beyond the mind to learn more about yourself, ask for help from the Universe, and learn how to reset unhealthy life patterns.

Friday, March 31st 6:30-8:30pm

Past Life Regression

This workshop will use hypnosis techniques to transport you back to a past you have known, but long forgotten. Have you ever wondered where your unique personality traits or unexplained fears come from? Have you ever met someone for the first time and just felt like you have always known them? Past life regressions are one of the most effective and remarkable ways to introduce you to a greater understanding of yourself, and the people in your "soul family". Your soul has many things it wants to learn and understand, more than what can fit into just one lifetime.Healing often comes by introducing the conscience mind to the subconscious cellular memory. When we recognize the past life fears and pain that we have carried over to our current life, they naturally dissolve in the spotlight of our awareness.
Come join us, as we journey back to another time and place to learn more about our multifaceted soul and meet the origins of our personality!!

Saturday, April 1st 10:30am-12:30pm

Intuitive Development

Beyond the basics- intuition is no longer just for the few who seem to be born with the gift of sensitivity. It is quickly becoming acknowledged and understood as a skill set of our human evolution. We all have intuition, but not all of us have kept the chamber open to receive this type information. This workshop shop series continues in its focus to isolate your awareness of this still small intuitive voice hidden beneath the loud thoughts in your mind. You will learn advancing techniques on how to receive your own personal guidance, as well as intuitive information for others. This class is a hands on interactive experience that will definitely leave you excited, empowered and wanting more!

Saturday, April 1st 22:00-4:00pm

Law of Attraction: Manifesting Our "Wants" into "Haves"

Have you ever wondered why you have been successful at creating "some" of your wants and desires into reality and not others? Do your fears seem to be the king in your kingdom? Are you stuck in a cycle of life that seems to have little growth and movement? We ALL could answer "YES!" to at least one of these questions over the course of our life. This workshop is designed to breakdown and deconstruct the manifestation process, leaving no stone unturned. We will be learning, role playing, and setting up NEW "thought patterns" for manifesting our dreams into reality. The Universe is responding to our thoughts and beliefs faster than ever before, its time for us to create clear thinking and raise our vibration. We will discover and reboot underling root subconscious patterns that have been blocking us from receiving our desires. It is time to put on our Alchemist Hat and turn our "Wants" into "Haves"!

Sunday, April 2nd 1:00-4:00pm

Spirit Guides

This workshop series will introduce you to a world that is often unseen and unheard. We all have a source of higher guidance that works with our internal compass to seek and follow our own personal northern star. Throughout time religions have openly recognized these messengers in many forms but, all with the same purpose. These directors are here to help guide us in our highest understanding of the life we have come to live.
We are designed to interact with our Guides and Angels in our everyday life, it is much like having our very own "mission control team"!
This class will help you to understand the metaphoric language used by Guides and Angels, along with simple techniques to begin dialogue and further your understanding of your own personal life's mission.

Jared Marchildon is a clinical western herbalist who trained at the Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley, CA. He now sees clients in private practice. Almost ten years ago, Jared suffered from chronic stomach complaints and spent a year working with a medical doctor who was unable to improve his condition. After a few weeks of self-study and dietary change he went to see an acupuncturist who prescribed a big bag of Chinese herbs that brewed into a dark, bitter and mysterious tea. Shortly, Jared’s health improved drastically and he felt great. The thought occurred to him that if roots and barks and mushrooms and leaves from China worked like this, then the plants growing right around him must have properties that he could learn and apply. This experience initiated a long exploration into the healing power of plants and food. Jared continues to study and learn from the plant allies.

Jared also makes fermented hot sauce with aphrodisiac and adaptogenic herbs, selling them under the name SEXI SPICE. Jared courted his wife, a Little Rock native, with herbal teas and tasty, healthy dinners. They went to herbalism school together and during this time conceived a baby girl named Azulene–the blue medicinal oil found in chamomile flowers. His website is recetaspoetas.org.

"Herbalists believe that health and vitality begin in the digestive tract.” –Deb Soule

In the past, all peoples ate bitter foods, herbs and drink, but they have gone missing from the American diet. In this 2 hour class, Jared will introduce bitter plants and herbs that help restore our life force and our connection to the wild. We will taste bitters in various forms, discuss ways to incorporate them into cuisine, learn how to make teas, and develop a simple extract process for making digestive bitters.

Beyond the Mind with Bonni McCliss

A guided workshop series on developing your    intuition and inner stillness

Join us as Bonni Mccliss –Intuitive Life coach and Hypnotherapist guides us on a journey through the world of the natural-intuitive mind. This workshop series includes specific techniques to help you decipher and build on those messages we all receive as “gut feelings”. Bonni’s simple yet effective techniques, are designed to encourage new direction of the neurological pathways to make the experience of intuition a larger part of our everyday life.

Friday, January 13th 6:30-8:30pm – Inner Stillness: We must first learn to hear the small quiet voice behind the loud words in our head before we can hear our intuition correctly. This workshop helps us to expose which subconscious tapes we play in our mind are ego thoughts, and which is actually natural intuitive dialogue.

Saturday, January 14th 1-3:00pm – How To Strengthen Your Intuitive Signal: This workshop will help you learn the “ins and outs” of sending and receive intuitive information, and where it comes from. You will also be guided in discovering how your body works in decoding this energetic language.

Saturday, January 14th 6-8:00pm-   Hypnosis For Releasing Your Cellular Pain: Our pre- programming is the only thing that keeps us separated from this natural intuitive language that we are born with. Bonni will be leading a group regression to help us to unclutter and reset our mental messaging process. As we release all things that no longer serve us, we can once and for all unbind from our past and engage our spiritual journey with new found energy and purpose.

Jivamukti Open Level Class with Karl Straub

Karl Straub lives in Switzerland where he leads yoga classes, retreats, and other events, and he travels to teach in other parts of the world (previously including Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Ukraine, USA, and more).

Whether you're a beginner, deciphering the difference between vrksasana (tree) and sirshasana (headstand) or an advanced yogi who can put both feet behind their head, the Jivamukti Open class welcomes you, as it is open to practitioners of all levels. You work at your own pace, following the teacher's verbal as well as hands-on guidance. Asana options will be provided for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.

A typical Open class incorporates the five tenets of Jivamukti Yoga:

    • shastra (scripture)
    • bhakti (devotion)
    • ahimsa (kindness)
    • nada (music)
    • dhyana (meditation)

An Open class presents classical yoga teachings as relevant to one’s life on and off the mat, drawn from the Focus of the Month essay, supported by chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation and meditation. All Open classes include 14 points—asanas, meditation and spiritual teachings—in a sequence creatively designed by the teacher. Exuberant, eclectic music plays an integral role: you might practice to a shifting soundtrack of ragas, global trance, hip-hop, spoken word, George Harrison, Sting, Krishna Das, Donna de Lory, Michael Franti, Bill Laswell, Alice Coltrane and Mozart.

The class is called “Open” because it is open and suitable to all levels of practitioner. Even so, beginning level students should know that there will not be much detailed “how to do” descriptions; for that a student is advised to attend a Basic or Beginner Vinyasa Class. The length of an Open class may differ at different centers, so please check the schedule for the center you are attending.

The class will be followed by a brief Kirtan, led by Karl, and a few minutes for Karl to answer any questions.

Hasta Mudra: An Intro into Hand Postures

MMUDRAS are gestures of the hands, feet, eyes, or body. The focus in this class will be on the hand mudras.

Wesley Pilcher will lead this innovative class in which Mudras will be incorporated into every part of the practice (meditation, breath, postures and relaxation) as a way of listening more deeply to our subtle energy body. The history of Mudras in the ancient teachings, from both the Martial Arts and Yoga backgrounds, will also be explored.

Mudras used with meditation and visualization can effectively enhance our awareness and understanding of many facets of yoga philosophy including the Koshas and the Chakras. Therapeutic Mudras support health and healing in body and mind, encouraging practitioners to release old habits and ways of being as they open up more space for newness and balance. Mudra chains offer the ability to compare sensations awakened with one mudra to another and can also amp up our energy experience to a new level.

    Yoga Nidra with Wesley

Yoga Nidra means "Yogic Sleep." It is a state of consciousness and gently focuses the mind while allowing thought patterns, emotions, sensations, and images to arise and go on. In Yoga Nidra, you leave the waking state, go past the dreaming state, and go to deep sleep yet remain awake. While Yoga Nidra is a state that is very relaxing, it is also used by yogis to purify the Samskaras (the deep impressions that are the driving force behind karma). In this Pop-Up Class, you will be guided through a deeply meditative state while experiencing the many benefits Yoga Nidra provides.

October Satsang: Behind the Facade! "Clothes are coverings. We are clothed in our gender, ethnicity, religion, prejudices, and mainly self-obsessed interests. The stories we tell about ourselves are forms of clothing. The unenlightened identify with their story—the story of their personality. They mistake who they really are for the layers of karmas they have accumulated—the outer clothes they wear. You know the popular saying, “Clothes make the man (or woman).” This does not have to be the case—each of us has the choice to write our own story. As we tell ourstory, we become our story. We can tell a true story or we can make up a lie—how truthful of a story will you tell?"
    ~ Sharon Gannon

Mantra Chanting: Repetition of specific mantras in a call and response format!

Relaxing Meditation (Approx. 20-25 minutes): Meditation will focus on shedding and delayering! Awaken refreshed and unbound by the layers of life.

    Sound Immersion with Tom Montagliano

An Immersive Sound Bath is very similar in nature to many of the traditional sound baths that you may be familiar with. However, instead of playing instruments such as glass bowls or gongs around the space, the sounds are created within a circle of 8 independent speakers utilizing the infinite possibilities of electronic sounds.
With this unique setup, the movement and frequency of the sounds can be controlled on a very precise level using the custom software that we have created to move sound in a circular pattern. The cyclical nature of the swirling sounds invokes a blissful and peaceful trancelike state unlike any other.

Additionally, because the sounds selected are neutral (not from nature or traditional instruments) it enables listeners to become easily immersed in thought and to effortlessly project there own imagery onto the soundscape.
The session itself begins by inviting the group to create a cozy place for themselves on the floor with pads, blankets, pillows and perhaps an eye cover. Then there is a brief introduction and greeting followed by 50 minutes of ambient electronic music with 8 speakers setup in a circle around the group. After the immersion comes to a gentle closing, the session ends with a few minutes of silence and they come back into awareness as slowly as is needed.

    8:50pm - Closing of Satsang/Aarti

June Focus of the Month: "Why Asana?" “Asana” is defined as any of the yogic postures or movements, but literally translates to “seat.” It’s said that originally the only posture in yoga was a comfortable seat taken for long periods of mediation. Eventually the other postures were developed to help find ease in sitting for so long, and to assist with opening the mind to a meditative state. The postures are used to increase hip flexibility so one can sit crosslegged, and to stimulate the chakras and nadis (allowing for energy body throughout the body). “Asana” is a very thought-provoking term, since thinking of each posture as a place to find the meditative “seat” or state of mind brings the practice away from just the physical movement and begins the journey of the mind looking inward. It also reinforces the idea that a practitioner should try seated meditation in addition to practicing postures.

Mantra Chanting: Repetition of specific mantras in a call and response format!

Relaxing/Healing/Peace Meditation (Approx. 20 minutes): Meditation will focus on communication and understanding!

Look forward to seeing you there!
